Overview

Eights Launching And Landing:The Master Coaches selected are professional coaches and come from the country's most respected and successful programs. Their experience is extensive both nationally and internationally, and their accomplishments are numerous. Rowers have praised not only their knowledge and teaching skills, but also their friendliness.

The facilities at the beautiful Camp Nashoba North in Raymond, Maine, match the high quality of the instruction provided. During the Center's sessions, swimming, tennis, volleyball, basketball, and croquet are available for use daily. Nashoba North provides the perfect facility for rowing. Crescent Lake is three miles long and offers the serenity that will enhance each person's experience

The Center's quality organization and teaching plan is administered by Barb Grudt. Barb coached successful programs at the international, collegiate, and high school level. The program finds the right balance between rowing instruction and free time to relax or participate in other activities. Each day consists of two instructional workouts, daytime demonstrations, erg coaching,  and an evening clinic to cap the day's instruction.

Video taping and review sessions are scheduled twice during the week by the Master Coaches. Six video review systems assure ample access for needed video analysis. At mid-week, an afternoon break is scheduled to allow participants free time to pursue an off-camp excursion.

Coach Vogel Describes Upper Body MovementsA Master Coach is assigned to a rowing group for the first half of the week and then after mid-week break they are reassigned. This gives each rower the opportunity to obtain direct instruction from two Master Coaches, but gives each coach sufficient time to develop coaching continuity.

The Center emphasizes individual instruction. Even though rowers are in eights, Master Coaches utilize drills and rowing by pairs, fours and sixes to pinpoint individual strengths and weaknesses and to make individual corrections.

This plan provides the appropriate structure to assure effective coaching for each individual.
______________________________________________________________

Rowing Program (Session 1) - For boys and girls ages 15-19 with at least one season's experience. Rowers are categorized by experience/age into groups of eight and assigned to a Master Coach. This produces an effective student-to-coach ratio of eight-to-one. The Master Coach is on the water with only one crew at a time.

Sculling Program (Session 2) - For scullers with at least one season of sculling experience. Scullers will be divided into three co-ed groups of eight based on age/experience. Each group will work with one Master Coach and row octopedes or quads. This smaller more intensive program will include clinics to teach participants about rigging, cross-training, and leadership. A written evaluation will be provided to each athlete based on their performance on the water and on the ergometer.

Coxing Program (Session 1 & 2) - For experienced coxswains. A Coxswain's Master Coach will administer specific instruction for coxswains. In addition to participating in all of the events that the rowers attend (on the water, video reviews and clinics), each coxswain will attend off-the-water coxing sessions. Detailed instruction covering topics such as boat-handling, workout skills, racing skills, cox/coach relationships, etc., will be discussed. This is an opportunity for coxswains to obtain valuable detailed instruction from the most experienced coaching staff available.
